Janis Joplin bought her 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet in September 1968 shortly after she left the band Big Brother and the Holding Company. Joplin used the car as her main means of transportation in San Francisco for several years. Orginially pearl grey, the car was transformed by her friend Dave Richards, a poster artist, who created a design influenced by contemporary events, the psychedelic drug scene, and graphics from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
